Dictionary of Legal Terms
Information, Bill of Information
A formal written accusation made by a prosecuting attorney charging a named person with a specific crime. An information can be used instead of an indictment by a grand jury except to charge offenses carrying a potential penalty of death or life imprisonment, but it cannot be used in any case unless the accused waives indictment.
