<p begin="00:00:05.60" end="00:00:10.80">The first legal document filed in a misdemeanor criminal case is called a “complaint.”</p>
<p begin="00:00:10.90" end="00:00:16.00">The forms of those vary from county-to-county, although the content remains the same.</p>
<p begin="00:00:16.10" end="00:00:23.20">However, throughout the State of Ohio, traffic complaints, more commonly referred to as “traffic tickets,” are all the same.</p>
<p begin="00:00:23.30" end="00:00:29.40">Ohio has developed a form called a “uniform traffic citation” and it’s used in all traffic cases,</p>
<p begin="00:00:29.50" end="00:00:34.00">whether the stop is made by the State Highway Patrol or a local police officer.</p>
<p begin="00:00:34.10" end="00:00:38.00">The citation requires that the driver be identified by name and address,</p>
<p begin="00:00:38.10" end="00:00:44.30">and that the driver’s license number be on the citation along with date, place and time of the citation.</p>
<p begin="00:00:44.40" end="00:00:48.40">There is a spot for the officer to write a description of the alleged offense,</p>
<p begin="00:00:48.50" end="00:00:54.20">and then a spot for the officer to note what section of State or local law was supposedly violated.</p>
<p begin="00:00:54.30" end="00:01:01.30">At the bottom of the citation is a spot where the driver is notified of the time he or she is to appear in court.</p>
