              <p begin="00:00:05.60" end="00:00:10.30">In Ohio, we still have a unique type of court called “mayor’s court.”</p>
              <p begin="00:00:10.40" end="00:00:13.90">It’s a special court where the mayor presides as a judge.</p>
              <p begin="00:00:14.00" end="00:00:17.50">It’s the only court in Ohio where the judge need not be a lawyer.</p>
              <p begin="00:00:17.60" end="00:00:22.90">It’s not a court of record, which means that no transcript is made of the proceedings and</p>
              <p begin="00:00:23.00" end="00:00:27.80">the case may be transferred from mayor’s court by a defendant to municipal court.</p>
              <p begin="00:00:27.90" end="00:00:31.50">Also, the municipal court may hear appeals from mayor’s court.</p>
              <p begin="00:00:31.60" end="00:00:38.80">A mayor’s court may hear cases of violations of driving while under the influence of alcohol within a designated territory;</p>
              <p begin="00:00:38.90" end="00:00:44.10">also, any violations of any municipal ordinance relating to traffic violations.</p>
              <p begin="00:00:44.20" end="00:00:51.40">A mayor’s court also has authority of some, but not all, misdemeanors involving municipal ordinances.</p>
              <p begin="00:00:51.50" end="00:00:57.40">Since 2004, mayor’s courts have been under strict regulations by the Ohio Supreme Court.</p>
              <p begin="00:00:57.50" end="00:01:03.90">Mayors are required to take certain training, and specific recordkeeping requirements are to be met.</p>
