This is your legal minute, brought to you by the Ohio State Bar Foundation.

If for some reason, you are required to go to court, there are certain things that you should and should not do.

Let’s go down the list:

Always be on time, preferably about 15 minutes early.

You may be required to go through security, so do not bring anything that could be a weapon.

Dress appropriately—no ball caps or tasteless t-shirts.

When you get there, check in with the bailiff or clerk.

Address the judge and all court personnel politely.

Be patient—sometimes cases take longer than expected, and you may need to wait.

If you don’t understand something, ask someone to explain it.

And never get angry or argue with the judge or the court staff.

These easy tips may not make your court appearance pleasant,

but if you follow them, it will cut down on any additional hassles you may face.

This legal minute is brought to you by the Ohio State Bar Foundation.
