Through the Private Attorney Involvement (PAI) program, lawyers contract with Southeastern Ohio Legal Services (SEOLS) to represent income-eligible clients. SEOLS pays a reduced hourly fee (up to a certain number of hours) directly to participating attorneys. A participating attorney is not required to accept a particular number of cases; the attorney may take as many or as few as desired. The majority of cases distributed through PAI involve obtaining civil protection orders for victims of domestic violence. Occasionally, a case may deal with a custody dispute, a divorce, or a landlord/tenant issue.
