Address:
175 South 3rd St., Suite 1000
ColumbusOH 43215

Contact Person:

Description:

Attorneys can volunteer to be a court-appointed Guardians Ad Litem in domestic and juvenile cases in Franklin County to assist unmarried partners in custody disputes.

In order to volunteer, attorneys must first attend a three-hour training program concentrating solely on the duties of a Guardian Ad Litem. Attending (or viewing a video of ) an Ohio-approved Continuing Legal Education course about Guardians Ad Litem automatically qualifies the attorney for eligibility to volunteer. After completing the training, a letter verifying completion of the training and requesting placement on a list of eligible attorneys is sent to the Domestic Administrative Magistrate or the Juvenile Assistant Court Director. The attorney will then be placed on the Court's guardian ad litem list and become eligible for appointment.

See Rule 15 of the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Domestic Division Rules of Practice or Rule 27 of the Franklin County Court of Common Please Domestic Division, Juvenile Branch Rules of Practice. The time commitment varies from case to case.
