Government Assistance : Disability Assistance


Ohio's Disability Assistance Program is a safety net for needy individuals who do not meet all of the eligibility requirements necessary to receive help from other federal and state benefit programs, such as Social Security Disability Insurance and Ohio Works First. Legal Education

Document  Age Discrimination Act of 1975 - It is the purpose of this chapter to prohibit discrimination on the basis of age in programs or activities receiving Federal financial assistance.  
Document  Americans with Disabilities Act & People Living with HIV/AIDS - Persons with HIV disease, both symptomatic and asymptomatic, have physical impairments that substantially limit one or more major life activities and are, therefore, protected by the law.

Document  Ohio's Disability Services - The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) offers a wide range of services to persons with disabilities.  
Document  Section 109 of Title I of the Housing & Community Development Act - Section 109 provides that no person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, national origin, religion, or sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity funded in whole or in part with Federal financial assistance.  
Document  Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act - No otherwise qualified individual with a disability in the United States, shall, solely by reason of his or her disability, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.  
Document  Social Security Benefits For People With Disabilities - Social Security Disability Insurance pays benefits to you if you are "insured" meaning that you worked long enough and paid Social Security taxes.  
Document  Wage Garnishment - This booklet from the Ohio State Legal Services Association introduces wage garnishment and discusses when it is appropriate to challenge and avoid it.
